The American Society of Limnology and Oceanography (ASLO) is a professional society whose purposes are to:

  • Promote the interests of limnology, oceanography and related sciences;

  • Foster the exchange of information across the range of aquatic science; and,

  • Further investigations dealing with these subjects.

 

This article is written at a definitional level only. Authors wishing to expand this entry are inivited to expand the present treatment, which additions will be peer reviewed prior to publication of any expansion.

ASLO originated with the Limnological Society of America (LSA), which was established in 1936 to further interest and research in limnological science. In 1948 LSA merged with the Oceanographic Society of the Pacific to become ASLO, and has over 3800 memebers from 50 countries.
