The berm crest is the seaward limit of a beach berm, for the edge of any sea or ocean.

Geometry

The berm crest is located on the backshore immediately above the foreshore.

Ecology

Since wave action is not a diurnal occurrence at the location of the berm crest, the ability of a variety of organisms to thrive here is much greater than the foreshore, which is habitat for specialized marine species, who have adapted to the wave action and shifting sands..
