Biological oceanography is the study of life in the seas and oceans and how the physical and chemical properties of the ocean are influenced by marine life. The fundamental goal is to examine the distribution, abundance, and production of marine species and to obtain a basic understanding of the processes controlling them. Compare to chemical, geological and physical oceanography.

Biological oceanography is the study of life in the seas and oceans and how the physical and chemical properties of the ocean are influenced by marine life.
