Albert Champion (1878-1927) was a French-born pioneer of spark plug design and a champion bicycle racer. He left his native France in 1899 and moved to Boston, Massachusetts where he turned his hobby of making spark plugs for friends into a business—The Champion Ignition Co. Champion developed AC into a renowned and highly successful manufacturer of spark plugs for automobiles and aircrafts, as well as other products vital to industry. After Champion's death, AC became a full division of General Motors.
