C Michael HoganThe lakes of Malaysia are found distributed in a number of the Malaysian states, the majority of which are in Peninsular Malaysia. There is a signifant yield of fish from the freshwater lakes of Malaysia; however, overall catches appear to be on the decline, due to siltation inflow and possibly overfishing. In addition to the large well-defined lakes, Malaysia has a relatively large amount of freshwater swamps and fish farms, which effectively serve as lakes, although many are anthropogenic; the chief purposes of these swampy water bodies are for fish farming and rice cultivation. The following is a listing of major lakes by state:
Kedah
- Dayang Bunting Lake, Langkawi
- Pedu Lake
Pahang
Perak
- Banding Lake
- Bukit Merah Laketown Resort, Bukit Merah
- Chenderoh Lake
- Taiping Lake Gardens, Taiping
- Temenggor Lake
Terengganu
Federal territories
Kuala Lumpur
- Perdana Lake Gardens
- Titiwangsa Lake Gardens, Titiwangsa
Putrajaya
