Hermann Scheer (1944-), a German economist and politician known for his pioneering efforts in the promotion of solar energy technologies. As a member of the German Parliament and founder of the European Association for Solar Energy (1988), he became a dominant organizational force in renewable energy policy in Germany and throughout Europe. Scheer developed and successfully implemented Germany's million solar roof program and the mandatory solar energy "Feed-in Law", which helped Germany become a world leader in the generation of wind power.
