The Encyclopedia of Earth

Alejandra Roman graduated in May 2006 from Boston University with a double B.A. in Environmental Policy and Analysis and Hispanic Language and Literature. While studying, she worked as a research assistant for Cutler Cleveland at Boston University's Center for Energy and Environmental Studies, mainly assisting in the development of the Earth Portal and Encyclopedia of Earth. After graduation, she moved to Washington D.C. where she worked full time at the National Council for Science and the Environment (NCSE) as a Program Assistant for the Encyclopedia of Earth. In July 2009, Alejandra received her MSc from Erasmus Mundus program (MESPOM) from four institutions Central European University, University of Manchester, Lund University and University of the Aegean. She completed her master's thesis research at the University of Manchester on the topic of continuous ground gas monitoring to verify greenhouse gas emissions from peat soils. Her thesis involved using ground gas monitoring instruments called Gasclams developed by her thesis adviser, Dr. Stephen Boult. Now, she resides in Mexico City, where she continues to work on the EoE as well as with various environmental organizations and their research initiatives. While living in Mexico, she volunteered with Isla Urbana, an organization dedicated to helping Mexicans meet water needs through rainwater storage systems.

As of May 2011, she she has been living in Los Angeles, Chile (Region VIII) where is she beginning to work the the Valle Central Institute on developing sustainable developing education initiatives for locals.
