Dr. Carol Franco is a postdoctoral fellow/Research Associate at the Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources and the Gund Institute of Ecological Economics at the University of Vermont.
Dr. Franco’s current postdoc research focuses on assessing the capacity of the Dominican Republic’s food self-sufficiency while protecting the ecosystem base of the country. She is also teaching courses in ecological economics and ecosystem management at the Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources.
Dr. Franco has experience in natural resources management, protected areas, environmental and social policy, and ecological economics. Her research interests include alternative measures of well-being, effects of development policies in Latin America, sustainable food production and self-sufficiency, among others. She has published or is currently working on publication in these areas.
She has previously worked for the Ministry of Environment in the Dominican Republic and has continues to collaborate on projects. During her graduate studies she received scholarships from Fulbright-LASPAU and the American Association of University of Women (AAUW).
She holds a PhD in Environmental Policy and Ecological Economics from SUNY- College of Environmental Science and Forestry, an M.S. in Natural Resources Management from SUNY- College of Environmental Science and Forestry, and a B.S. degree in Biology from the Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo.
