As Integrated Assessment Program Director of the Graham Institute at the University of Michigan, John is responsible for designing, implementing and overseeing the day-to-day operations for the Integrated Assessment (IA) Program. This includes the administrative, financial, personnel and planning aspects of IA activity as well as the research staff engaged in day-to-day operations. John works in collaboration with the IA faculty research teams and participates on IA projects, conducting research as appropriate, with results used in broader IA research projects.
John earned a B.S. in Agricultural Engineering Technology from Michigan State University and his Ph.D. from the School of Natural Resources and Environment at UMAnn Arbor.From 2000-2007, John was the founding director of the Institute for Community and Environment at Colby-Sawyer College and an Associate Professor of Social Sciences and Education. At Colby-Sawyer, John coordinated annual research projects involving teams of faculty and students working with community-based organizations on land and watershed management issues. Between 1984 and 1987 John served as an agricultural volunteer with Peace Corps Nepal working on improving seed supplies in remote hill villages.Areas of interest include environmental sociology, environmental justice, environmental ethics, and environmental policy.
