Laura Elizabeth Garrison earned a degree in Spanish at Texas Tech University, where she was a member of the Honors College. After graduation in May 2008, she plans to move to her hometown of Houston, Texas where she will be a member of the 2008 [www.teachforamerica.org/ Teach for America] Corps. After the corps, she plans on pursing a Ph. D. in Spanish literature. In her spare time, she enjoys running, swimming, and traveling. Laura participated in the Encyclopedia of Earth Student Science Communication Project while taking a course entitled “Advanced Fieldcraft” that focused on the Rio Grande River. She spent a week on a canoe trip through Boquillas Canyon in Big Bend National Park as part of this class.
