Linda Lear is a biographer and environmental historian. Her book, Rachel Carson: Witness for Nature, was published in 1997, and has been translated into eight languages. She has written introductions to Carson's own works, including the new edition of Under the Sea-Wind, 2007 and Silent Spring, 2007. Lear is the editor of the anthology Lost Woods: The Discovered Writing of Rachel Carson (1998) and has contributed two essays to the centennial anthology, Courage for the Earth. Lear's latest publication is Beatrix Potter: A Life in Nature. the first adult biography of the famous English children's writer and conservationist.
