Dr. Niladri Basu is presently an Assistant Professor of Environmental Health Sciences at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Prior to this he spent two years as a NSERC Postdoctoral Fellow at the National Wildlife Research Center (Environment Canada) and Center for Advanced Research in Environment Genomics (CAREG, University of Ottawa). He has a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Sciences and Life Sciences from Queen's University (Kingston, Canada), a MSc in Animal Science (Fish Physiology) from the University of British Columbia (Vancouver, Canada), and a PhD in Wildlife Toxicology from McGill University (Montreal, Canada). His research focuses on the development, application, and validation of novel biomarkers to assess early-stage, neurotoxic damage in wildlife and humans. Using integrative and comparative approaches, he has shown that ecologically relevant concentrations of pollutants (such as mercury) can disrupt brain chemistry in multiple organisms. To date he has published 22 peer-reviewed journal articles and has delivered more than 40 conference presentations.
