Poul Johansen has long experience as project manager and coordinator of large projects and has acted as adviser to the Danish and Greenlandic governments. He is a Senior Research Scientist at the National Environmental Research Institute, Roskilde.

The main research interests include: Environmental research and protection in relation to mineral exploration and hydropower plants in Greenland; Studies and environmental assessment of heavy metal pollution from mining; Mitigation and regulation of pollution from mining; Baseline studies of heavy metals in the Greenland environment; Human exposure to contaminants from local Greenland diet; Environmental studies, assessment and regulation of offshore hydrocarbon exploration and transport; Participant in public hearings in Greenlandic communities.
