Dr. Sylvio Codella is Associate Professor of Biological Sciences at Kean University, where he teaches Zoology and Animal Behavior and studies the evolutionary ecology and biodiversity of forest insects. He earned his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Zoology at Rutgers University-Newark and holds a Ph. D. in Entomology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He began his career at Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin, where he received the Outstanding Teaching Award in 1994 and the Student Association Outstanding Faculty Award in both 1994 and 1996. He joined the Kean faculty in 1996. In 2004, he received the inaugural Schering-Plough Research Mentor Award for his continued involvement of undergraduates in his research program. Dr. Codella has served as a peer reviewer for numerous ecological and entomological journals. His outreach activities include frequent visits to schools and organizations, and he serves on the "BioBlitz" Steering Committee for the Union County (NJ) Department of Parks.
