Beth Lariviere is an environmental studies major at Mt. Holyoke College, a liberal arts college located in South Hadley, Massachusetts. She has recently fine tuned her major to concentrate on natural resource management. She believes, for example, that water scarcities, a major global issue, can be avoided with the right approach to management. She is also interested in sustainable agriculture and ecosystem restoration, and believes in leading by example. The large home garden she maintains each year integrates sustainable practices such as planting cover crops during the winter, hand tilling in the spring, polyculture planting, weeding by hand, and never applying any chemical additives, such as fertilizers or pesticides. When she's not at school, you might find her hiking trails of Western Massachusetts, reading contemporary poetry, or playing the guitar or piano.
