Ginny Brown

Ginny Brown came to NCSE as the Project Director for the NSF funded CAMEL (Climate, Adaptation, Mitigation, E-Learning) project. This work centers on developing a community of climate change educators, researchers and students to combat the impact of climate change.
Ginny has twelve years experience in working with academia at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Prior to coming to NCSE, Ginny was the Program Director for the Vulcan Materials Center for Environmental Stewardship and Education at Samford University, Birmingham, Alabama. The Vulcan Center was a partnership between a private university and a public corporation. Ginny was also served as the Associate Director for the Master of Science in Environmental Management, an accelerated professional degree program at Samford University.
Ginny has an broad background working with public, private and informal education, civic organizations and municipal government. She has an educational, as well as a working background in environmental health, and environmental management. Ginny served as an appointed city official for over twenty years, as Chair of the Zoning Board of Adjustments. This involvement initiated the creation of a Cell Tower Ordinance. She chaired the Upper Cahaba Watershed Task Force, making recommendations for protection of the Cahaba River and the water source for Birmingham, AL.
Ginny founded and convened several active organizations around education and environmental issues and land use planning. The most recent is the Interfaith Environmental Initiative of Alabama http://www.interfaithenvironmental.org/?page_id=49
Ginny received a Professional Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health (MSEH) from East Tennessee State University, (Cum Laude) and a Professional Master of Science in Environmental Management (MSEM), from Samford University, Birmingham, Alabama. She also holds several continuing education course certificates from the Center for Disease Control (CDC).
Ginny was a member of the 2002 Study Group to Kenya, focusing on soil conservation issues in East Africa.
Also served as faculty leader for 2008 Student Study Group to Tanzania.
She was a member of the 2010 USAID Study Group to Chernobyl to study the consequences of nuclear energy.
