Biography:

Harini Nagendra is Asia Research Coordinator at the Center for the Study of Institutions, Population, and Environmental Change at Indiana University, and Adjunct Fellow at the Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment, Bangalore, India. Her research investigates the processes impacting forest conservation and land cover change in human-dominated landscapes in South Asia, where the society-nature interface is fraught with conflict. Dr. Nagendra holds a PhD from the Indian Institute of Science, and is an Associate Member of the Indian Academy of Sciences. Her research has been extensively published in journals including Ambio, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Agriculture, Ecosystems and Environment, and Landscape Ecology. Dr. Nagendra is a recipient of the first Society in Science: Branco Weiss fellowship for interdisciplinary research at the society-life sciences interface, awarded from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zürich. Her research has been recognized by awards from the Indian National Science Academy, the Global Change System for analysis, research and Training (START) and the Proceedings of the US National Academy of Sciences.
