Biography: Lori Zaikowski is Chemistry Department Chair at Dowling College where she has taught diverse undergraduate and graduate courses in chemistry, environmental science, marine science, and interdisciplinary natural sciences since 1992. In 1997 she founded the Chemistry in Action Research program to conduct environmental investigations on the Long Island South Shore Estuary, and in 1999 she founded the South Shore Estuary Watch. In 2005 she received a Guest Appointment at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) where she conducts research on a Department of Energy FaST fellowship. At BNL she studies the energetics of electron transfer and charge separation with applications to energy storage and transfer. She is PI for and Director of the NSF Robert Noyce Program at Dowling College. As an Adjunct Associate Professor in the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University, she teaches Environmental Chemistry in the Environmental Science and Policy MPA program.
