Marc Cadotte

Dr. Marc Cadotte is an ecologist and evolutionary biologist who studies how ecological communities are put together and maintained. His interests cover three main research areas. First using genetic sequences he reconstructs the evolutionary history of co-occurring species in order to understand how the evolution of traits and niches affects species coexistence. Second, he studies how dispersal, which links local communities together, can be a major determinant of patterns of species diversity. Finally, he studies the dynamics of plant invasions and the traits or processes allowing some species to become so successful.
Dr. Cadotte has authored more than 30 articles in science journals, as well as editing a book on using ecological theory to understand species invasions. He is also on the editorial board of two journals: the Journal of Applied Ecology and Biological Invasions. He received his Ph.D. from the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Tennessee in 2006 and held a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis in Santa Barbara. He is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Toronto Scarborough and the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Toronto.
