Biography:

Prof. M.N. Rashed is Professor of Environmental Chemistry in the Chemistry Department, Faculty of Science Aswan, Aswan University, Aswan, Egypt. He worked as director of the Mining and Industrial research sector at the High Dam Lake Development Authority, Aswan, Egypt from 1976 to 1996. After that time he transferred to Aswan Faculty of Science as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and now Professor of Environmental Chemistry. He has authored more than 40 articles in the field of heavy metals and trace elements in water, soil, sediment and air pollution, as well as environmental chemistry, water and wastewater treatment and heavy metal assessment in ecosystems. He served as a referee in national and international journals and conferences. He invited, participated and chaired a session in several national and international conferences in USA, Spain, France, Italy, Mauritania, Tunisia, Jordan, Malaysia, Thailand and Japan. He organized and chaired a session, "Water pollution and control in developing countries," in the 3ed World Water Forum at Kyoto, Japan March 2003. He serves as consultant of environmental assessment and monitoring and improving the rural environment with national and international NGOs in Egypt. Prof. Rashed awarded the national Egyptian award for environmental researches from the Egyptian Academy of Sciences. He served as director of the Environmental Protection Programme for the High Dam Lake at Aswan, Egypt from 1980 to 1996. He was born in Quina, Egypt and received his Ph.D. in environmental chemistry from Assuit University in 1989.
