Dr. Patrick Mehlman serves as Senior Director of Program Development at Rare Conservation, a group that helps to coordinate projects in over 50 different countries. As Senior Director of Program Development, Dr. Mehlman draws on more than two decades of experience. He works closely with the CEO to help raise awareness of the organization and its goals.
Dr. Patrick Mehlman has given lectures at many international conferences. He has also spoken to a group of fishery stakeholders, where he campaigned on behalf of Size Matters, an initiative seeking to provide great regulations for lobster fisheries. In addition to his pursuits as a lecturer, Dr. Patrick Mehlman is also responsible for developing online campaigns and initiatives for marine conservation. He also develops relationships with organization partners and fund-raisers.
Prior to his role with Rare Conservation, Dr. Patrick Mehlman worked with Conservation International. He oversaw all the technical aspects of the Central Africa program, including projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo; global business strategy, grant management, and fund-raising. At Conservation International, his accomplishments included developing Congo's first REDD (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) project.
Outside of his work with conservation groups, Dr. Patrick Mehlman also possesses a solid academic background. Possessing a B.A. from the University of Indiana and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Toronto, he has served as a faculty member at the University of Montreal. He also holds a membership in the American Society of Primatologists.
