Biography:

Dr. Ranjan is working as a Post Doctoral Researcher in the Graduate School of Environmental Studies, Tohoku University, Japan. He holds a PhD in Civil Engineering from Tohoku University (2005), a Master of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering from Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand (2002) and a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering from University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka (1999). He has worked as a lecturer in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka. He has performed excellent research achievements in the field of groundwater and water resources engineering. His main research interests focuses on water resources engineering, modeling of groundwater resources, coastal groundwater resources, hydrology and watershed management, impacts of global warming, climate change and land use changes. In his doctoral dissertation on “Evaluation of the effects of global warming on coastal groundwater resources”, he investigated the effect of climate change, sea level rise and land use change on coastal groundwater resources, focusing on the salinity intrusion in coastal aquifers. His research work in these fields has been acknowledged by European Commission - Environment News Alert project by selecting his journal paper as a potential reference and several academic awards (American Geophysical Union (AGU) best student paper award, Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE) outstanding paper award and AFPE young researcher award)
