Biography:

Rebecca Theobald earned doctoral and masters’ degrees in Geography from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Middlebury College. Her masters’ research explored whether the elimination of geographic boundaries for school attendance produces better-educated children, evokes a particular sense of identity, or changes the nature of contacts among various socioeconomic groups. Expanding the geographic scale, her doctoral work examined the early-career experiences of foreign-born geography faculty in American higher education, with particular attention to departmental, institution, and community contexts. She currently holds an appointment as Assistant Professor Adjoint in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs where she is pursuing opportunities to connect higher education institutions with elementary and secondary geography teachers, expanding programs for professional development and public engagement. Her research interests focus on the intersection of geography and education, as well as political geography and community issues. She is continually searching for ways to influence public policy by using resources wisely, anticipating changes locally and globally, and proposing solutions for competing groups.
