Biography:

Reid J. Lifset is a member of the faculty at the School of Forestry & Environmental Studies at Yale University. He is editor-in-chief of the Journal of Industrial Ecology, an international peer-reviewed quarterly headquartered at and owned by Yale University and published by MIT Press. In addition, he is associate director of the Industrial Environmental Management Program.

Mr. Lifset’s research and teaching focus on the emerging field of industrial ecology, the study of the environmental consequences of production and consumption. His research focuses on the development of the field of industrial ecology, the application of industrial ecology to solid waste problems, and the evolution of extended producer responsibility (EPR). He is currently investigating the global life cycle of metals, the environmental implications of a shift to bio-based materials and fuels, and the application of industrial ecology in Asia, especially China. He has published extensively on EPR and on solid waste issues in academic and professional publications and is editor of the ''Yale Working Papers on Solid Waste Policy''. He also serves on the Science Advisory Board of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
