Biography:

Sandra Díaz trained as a plant ecologist in the National University of Córdoba, Argentina, and at the Department of Animal and Plant Sciences of the University of Sheffield, UK. At present, she does research and teaching in the field of community ecology and biogeography at the National University of Córdoba, Argentina. Her fields of interest are community ecology, plant functional types, and global environmental change. She has made contributions to the understanding of plant functional types and their links to ecosystem processes and services. She is involved in multidisciplinary projects linking natural and social aspects of environmental vulnerability and sustainability. During the last years, she has been actively involved in international initiatives related to global change, such as the Global Change and Terrestrial Ecosystems Core Project of International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP), the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), and the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).
