Biography:

Dr. Wayne T. Davis is Associate Dean for Research and Technology in the College of Engineering and Professor of Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Dr. Davis's area of concentration is air quality management and air pollution control. He has conducted numerous research projects for industrial and governmental agencies including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Tennessee Valley Authority, U.S. Department of Energy, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Federal Highway Administration, Tennessee Department of Transportation, Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, Ohio Coal Development Office, the U.S. Army Research Laboratory, and the Air and Waste Management Association (A&WMA). Specific areas of research include research/modeling of ozone and PM2.5 formation, measurement/control/modeling of particulate matter and gaseous pollutants, preparation of emission inventories with a particular focus on mobile source emissions, and development of alternative control strategies for nonattainmnent areas.

He is a fellow member of Air and Waste Management Association, and recipient of the Lyman A. Ripperton Award from A&WMA in 1990 for distinguished achievement as an educator in the field of air pollution control. Dr. Davis serves as a frequent advisor to the Tennessee Department Environment and Conservation’s Division of Air Pollution Control and to the Tennessee Department of Transportation’s Planning Division on issues related to air quality management, maintenance of emission inventories, and the projection of future emissions of air pollutants, and is currently the chair of the Knox County Air Pollution Control Board. He is also the co-author of the graduate textbook, Air Pollution: Its Origin and Control, published by Prentice Hall, and editor of the Air Pollution Engineering Manual published by John Wiley.
