Greetings! My name is Jen Hammock. I'm the Marine Theme coordinator at the Encyclopedia of Life. I first got my feet wet, so to speak, in the Joint Program in Biological Oceanography at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In my doctoral research I studied olfaction (sense of smell) in marine mammals compared with their terrestrial kin. My focal species was the sea otter. More recently I learned about life in the Southern Ocean while working on the Antarctic Invertebrates website at the National Museum of Natural History. Recently, I have been working on emerging collaborations between the Encyclopedia of Earth and the Encyclopedia of Life, connecting information from habitat EoE ecoregion articles with the EOL pages of the organisms that live in these regions. Nature: it's all connected...
