Biography:

I love the wild outdoors, wildlife, the sea, snorkeling, kayaking, film and theater. Dr Siry is Treasurer of Save the Manatee Club. A native of Miami Beach, Dr. Siry teaches environmental studies and the history of science and technology to graduate and undergraduate students at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. He is and has been a member of the executive board of Florida Defenders of the Environment, in Gainesville for over two decades.

Having earned his doctorate in environmental history from the University of California, at Santa Barbara where he studied with the late Garret Hardin and Roderick Nash. He began undergraduate teaching in history at Sonoma State University in 1983. His book on the settlement and protection of estuaries and the conservation of rivers and coast areas was published by Texas A & M University Press; entitled, Marshes of the Ocean Shore. http://www.tamupress.com/product/Marshes-of-the-Ocean-Shore,1211.aspx

He has won the Rollins College McKean and Arthur Vining Davis Awards for teaching, service and scholarship. While on sabbatical leave he worked with the Natural Resources Defense Council and thirty affiliated groups to help create and manage the Florida Climate Alliance to promote education on the impacts of global warming and abrupt climate change on the states' property, agricultural, timber and economic development, natural habitats and especially shoreline erosion. As part of an editorial team he helped create "Feeling the Heat in Florida," with Jeff Fiedler and Fred Mays who collected information from scientists cncerning the consequences of global warming statewide.

A recent appearance in the film What is the Electric Car --http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1584141/-- he worked with the director and producers to promote the rationality of, performance values of and reduced pollution from electric vehicles.
