The Obama administration announced Tuesday that it is lifting the drilling moratorium imposed after the April 20th BP oil spill after setting in place new, preventative regulations. The halt in deepwater drilling was supposed to run through November 30th, but the administrative changes to improve safety, oversight and environmental protection have been deemed stringent enough for drilling to resume. However, environmentalists have called on the White House to extend the freeze to shallow-water drilling as well.
