Most man-made oil pollution comes from land-based activities but unfortunately public focuses more on seagoing oil tankers. Heavier crude oil of less toxicity remain on the water surface much longer as oil is lighter than water and does not decompose, as it is also flammable oil spills can usually fuel ocean fires.
